There are many forms of the FBI Virus and all of them share the same method of operation: you did something illegal and need to pay money. If your computer is infected with the FBI Virus you need to remove it immediately. Removal instructions are at the end of the article.

Update #2: We have seen a sharp increase in the number of infections being spread. It appears that this virus is becoming even more malicious in the fact that it is becoming more difficult to conduct any kind of activity on your computer. We have also been monitoring whether or not this virus is transmitting your computer files to another location.

The individuals who wrote this malicious virus have actually been editing the code to make it more troublesome. They have also been changing the style of the notice and adding more webcam features. It is not uncommon to have a webcam screenshot on the notice. Also, the Moneypak payment method is still being used as a way to pay the fake fine. Of course do not pay the fine the FBI warning shows.

As we gather even more intelligence on the FBI virus we will update this page. Unfortunately this virus keeps changing which means that the hackers who are behind this infection are hard at work making it more malicious. We are concerned that this virus may become even more malicious and will keep an eye out for additional changes.

As far as who is behind this virus we have no idea. I am sure that there are many people who are actively searching for the individuals responsible for the FBI hoax. Hopefully something can be done to stop this infection from spreading further.

FBI Lockdown Variation
Scroll down for removal instructions.

FBI Moneypak Virus Variation
Scroll down for removal instructions.

Update #1: We are monitoring this virus on a daily basis. It has been changing its appearance and has infected hundreds of thousands of computers throughout the world so far. We have seen this virus change its appearance at least five times in one month. As more changes are made to the virus we will update this page.

The FBI Virus is a type of virus which displays a fake FBI warning purported to be from the Federal Bureau of Investigation. The Joint Chiefs of Staff computer block is a scam. The real Joint Chiefs of Staff did not lock or suspend your computer. Remove this virus immediately if your computer is suspended by the Joint Chiefs of Staff. Removal instructions are at the end of the article.

Several people are having their computers blocked by a notice that is supposedly from the Joint Chiefs of Staff. However, this is not a real notice, it is a financial hoax. If you see a warning or notice that says “The work of your computer has been suspended on the grounds of the violation of the law of the United States of America” you have been infected with a new virus. This is a fake notice, spread through a computer trojan.

Joint Chiefs of Staff Virus
Scroll down for removal instructions.

The actual Joint Chiefs of Staff did not suspend or lock your computer. They would not have anything to do with the blocking of computers. It is probably obvious that this is a hoax, however if you do not believe it is fake please understand that many of these infections have been going around. The Joint Chiefs of Staff notice is in fact fake.

It is common for an infection like this one to demand you pay a fine in order to lift the computer suspension. Of course you should not pay the fine the Joint Chiefs of Staff notice says. The fine is typically requested to be paid using MoneyPak, however additional payment methods may be requested as well.

We have observed the Joint Chiefs of Staff virus ourselves and have provided instructions on completely how to remove it.

You most likely acquired the Joint Chiefs of Staff virus while browsing the internet. This type of ransomware becomes installed on your computer without you knowing. Once it is installed it typically waits a few minutes until it appears. The reason why it waits to appear is because it is gathering information and does not want you to know the source of the infection.

Once a computer has been infected with the Joint Chiefs of Staff virus is can be virtually impossible to perform any type of computer task. The notice appears and locks your computer completely, not allowing you to even browse the internet. The creators of the Joint Chiefs of Staff ransomware were seeking maximum damage with a virus of this type.

We are well aware of the frustration and difficulty associated with a owning a computer that has a virus. We are especially aware of the complete inability to use your computer at all if infected with the Joint Chiefs of Staff lock. We have observed the Joint Chiefs of Staff virus ourselves and have provided instructions on completely how to remove it.

During our testing we purposely infected several computers with the Joint Chiefs of Staff virus. The Spamhaus virus locks your computer and demands that you pay. Some of the notices may contain a countdown clock, stating that you have 48 hours to pay. The method of payment for the Spamhaus virus is typically through MoneyPak. Ukash may also be used with the Spamhaus virus.

Spamhaus virus image
Scroll down for removal instructions.

If you see that you computer is locked by Spamhaus and that there is a demand for payment then you have this ransomware infection. The MoneyPak code that they ask from you will not unlock your computer. The notice typically says that you have lost control of your computer and then accuses you of spreading malware.

The Spamhaus Project is a real organization and is not affiliated with this scam. The Spamhaus Project is a reputable online privacy and protection organization. The Spamhaus Project provides detailed information on known botnets and other malicious entities in order to prevent hacking attempts. Many DDoS attacks have been prevented or stopped with the help of this organization.

This virus uses the reputation and stature of the Spamhaus Project in an attempt to bring legitimacy to the computer lock. Many other ransomware viruses have used this same tactic. They hijack the name of a reputable company and claim that it is locking your PC.

We are extremely confident that if you follow our removal procedure below you will permanently remove the Spamhaus virus.

We are aware that the Spamhaus virus can be extremely annoying to have on your computer. The countdown clock is a scare tactic. Do not be fooled by this ransomware computer virus. Do not for any reason purchase a Green Dot MoneyPak and enter the code in the Spamhaus notice. A MoneyPak code to remove Spamhaus does not exist.

We highly recommend that you remove the Spamhaus virus if it has infected your computer. This ransomware will not disappear on its own. You must remove the Spamhaus lock from your computer if you want to regain control of it. It is called the Department of Justice Virus. This particular virus locks your computer and does not let you perform any tasks. It tries to pose as the real Department of Justice but this is a complete scam and is not really from the authorities. You should remove the Department of Justice immediately. Removal instructions are at the end of the article.

The Department of Justice Virus is an infection that completely takes over your computer and does not let you complete any tasks at all. It locks your computer, rendering it useless. Only one screen is visible and that is a warning from the authorities, specifically the Department of Justice, stating that you have conducted illegal activity.

The illegal activity that it claims you have conducted is listed as articles with specific infractions. Of course none of this is true. The Department of Justice Virus is an elaborate hoax, commonly referred to as ransomware in the antivirus community. Do not be fooled by the notice on your locked computer.

Various Virus Names:
Department of Justice Virus
Department of Justice Notice
DOJ Virus
Federal Department of Justice and Police Virus
Federal Department of Justice and Police Notice
*as the virus continually changes we will update the above list

Various Color Schemes:
White background with logo.
Black background with red letters.
White background with Department of Justice letterhead.
Grey background with logo.
*as the virus continually changes we will update the above list

Various Warnings:
Your Computer Has Been Blocked!
Your Computer Has Been Locked!
The work of your computer has been suspended on the grounds of the violation of the law of the United State of America.
This operating system is locked…
Following violations detected
*as the virus continually changes we will update the above list

Unfortunately the worst part about being infected with the Department of Justice Virus is that it completely locks your computer. You are not able to see your desktop, startmenu and cannot do anything at all. Your computer is a gigantic paper weight until you remove this ransomware infection.

This particular infection can be hard to trace as to the source of where you acquired it. Most likely you downloaded a file, email attachment or a fake software update. Once you download the file that is infected with this virus then your computer is locked. The only way to regain control of your computer is to remove the Department of Justice Virus. Detailed host file analysis can be found on VirusTotal by searching #reveton or #doj.

Ransomware such as the Department of Justice Virus locks your computer, claims you have done something wrong and demands payment. It is an elaborate hoax. It utilizes disabling the computer, causes fear and offers a payment solution. Of course you should not believe anything that this fake Department of Justice warning says.

We purposely infected our test computers with the Department of Justice Virus and then successfully removed the virus using the exact removal instructions we have posted below.

If you try to do a system restore on your computer to remove this ransomware virus infection then you are wasting your time. A system restore is not possible if you are infected with the Department of Justice Virus. The creators and code hackers that made this virus has purposely disabled the capability to do a system restore.

To remove the Department of Justice Virus you will need a professional virus removal program. We recommend a program called Spyhunter to remove this infection. We have tested Spyhunter to remove the Department of Justice Virus from various computers running Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7 and Windows 8. We successfully removed the virus each time we conducted the infection and removal test.

We have tested our removal procedure ourselves. We have a computer lab with multiple test computers running different operating systems. We purposely infected our test computers with the Department of Justice Virus and then successfully removed the virus using the exact removal instructions we have posted below.
