The fake FBI warning states that the FBI is aware of your location, that the FBI has your internet address, that the FBI has your picture and many more fear based tactics. Some of the criminal charges you are accused of may include: Violating Copyright and Related Rights Law, Child Pornography, Pirated Music, Pirated Software, Illegal Downloads, Illegal Online Activity and more.

You most likely acquired the FBI Virus while browsing the web or through a malicious file. A lot of times you will not know where you downloaded this malicious file containing this virus and unfortunately once it is on your computer it will not go away. Have you received an email that says “2 Explosions at Boston Marathon” or an email that contains “Aftermath to explosion at Boston Marathon” in your inbox? The Boston Marathon bombing email hoax contains a link to a supposed video. If you click the link in the email you will become infected with a virus. The Spamhaus virus is a computer lock scam. The Spamhaus notice says that you have lost control of your computer. The Spamhaus notice requests payment with MoneyPak. You must keep in mind that this is a scam. The Spamhaus virus locks your computer and demands that you pay. Some of the notices may contain a countdown clock, stating that you have 48 hours to pay. The method of payment for the Spamhaus virus is typically through MoneyPak. Ukash may also be used with the Spamhaus virus.

If you see that you computer is locked by Spamhaus and that there is a demand for payment then you have this ransomware infection. You must always remember that this is a bogus notice. Your computer is locked by a virus, the Metropolitan Police Virus, and not by law enforcement. You have not conducted any illegal activity and the Metropolitan Police are not trying to arrest you so please do not be worried.
