1 To begin, go ahead and reboot the infected computer. If the infected computer is turned off, go ahead and turn it on.

5 Now that the virus is not running it is time to begin removal. On your keyboard, click and hold the Windows key, then press the R key. See keyboard diagram below.

6 After you have pressed the Windows and R key, the Windows Run Box will open. Type exactly the following into the run box and click OK:

7 When you see the PC Tools download box, click the Run button. The picture of the download box is below. After you click the “Run” button, PC Tools will launch. If your computer asks if you are sure you want to run PC Tools, click OK.

8 When PC Tools is launched, complete the installation and perform the virus scan. Once the virus scan is complete, PC Tools will have found Data Restore. Remove the Data Restore Virus by registering PC Tools. You must register PC Tools to remove Data Restore.

9 Complete the registration process. After you have registered PC Tools the Data Restore Virus should be completely gone.

After removing the Data Restore Virus you will need to “unhide” the files that the virus hid. Remember that the virus hid all files on your computer in order to make you think that they are gone.

Go into My Computer. Open the C: drive. On the top menu bar you will see “Tools”. Select Tools, then Folder Options. In Folder Options select the View tab.

You will then see Hidden Files and Folders. Select the “Show Hidden Files, Folders, and Drives. That should show the contents of the C: drive.

After you have done that, highlight all of the contents of the C: drive directory, then repeat the “unhide” process so that you will once again see everything that was hidden within the entire C: drive.
